COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM
SPECIAL MEETING
MONDAY 10:00 A.M. JULY 8, 2019
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright; Vice-Chairman Brett
Wachsmith and Commissioner Laura Osiadacz.
Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Darcy Batura,
Forest Partnerships Manager at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and one
member of the public (Gary Berndt).
SPECIAL MEETING COMMUNITY FOREST OWNERSHIP COMMISSIONERS
At 10:00 a.m. Chairman Wright opened a Special Meeting with Darcy
Batura, TNC, to receive a Presentation on the Potential Community
Forest ownership of Central Cascade Forest Land.
Darcy Batura, Forest Partnerships Manager TNC gave an overview of
the Community Forest Ownership; and Community Forest Model as well
as the 3 trips the TNC and interested stakeholders went on in
Montana, Hood River Oregon and New Hampshire/Vermont/Maine. She
briefly reviewed what it means to have a Community Forest as well as
the timelines for the various proposed ideas they have developed.
There was roundtable discussion and the Board was very clear in that
the community has to be in support of the proposal for them to also
be in support.
Commissioner Osiadacz stated that she would work on a letter of
support for the Board to consider on an upcoming agenda. She stated
that their letter of support will only be that they support the
concept at this point.
The meeting was adjourned 10:40 a.m.
