DISCUSSION KCSO CONCERNS/IMPACTS PUBLIC WORKS
At 1:00 p.m. Chairman Wachsmith opened a Special Meeting to discuss
with Sheriff Clay Myers unintended impacts to their office by
Resolution and/or Ordinances approved by the BoCC.
Clay Myers, Sheriff explained the impacts to his office that came
from the recent passing of Ordinance 2019-012 No. Amending LCC
10.06.050 and Kittitas County Code 10.07.060 (Towing and Impounding
Violating Parking Restrictions). He explained that his office wasn’t
engaged in the conversation leading up to the Ordinance being
considered and there are details left out of the Ordinance that need
to be addressed. He explained that when it becomes enforceable there
are impacts to his office and planning that needs to be done. He
stated that this has happened two other times in the past and he
would like to find a way to avoid it in the future. He stated that
residents are calling wanting to know why this new code is not being
enforced now, and feels his office was blindsided.
There was discussion on what went wrong and possible solutions to
the problem moving forward.
Director Cook stated that he will re-notice the Hearing to address
the concerns brought forward as well as other edits were requested
for a later date.
Sheriff Myers stated that he would work on educating the residents
and would be happy to send Commander Kokjer with Director Cook to
meet with them.
Commissioner Osiadacz stated that she will send IT a request to have
Department Heads & Elected Officials included on all notices of
Resolutions & Ordinances the Board is considering in the future.
