COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM SPECIAL MEETING MONDAY 11:00 A.M. FEBRUARY 10, 2020
Board members present: Chairman Brett Wachsmith; Vice-Chair Laura
Osiadacz; and Commissioner Cory Wright.
Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board and Benjamin West,
Director of Airport Operations.
SPECIAL MEETING AIRPORT UPDATE COMMISSIONERS
At 11:00 a.m. Chairman Wachsmith opened a Special Meeting to meet
with Benjamin West, the new Director of Airport Operations.
The Board reviewed expectations of Mr. West and duties as the
Director of Airport Operations which included working on leases;
maintenance; vegetation; safety; and developing rules & regulations
along with the Airport Advisory Committee since they’ve been working
on them recently.
The Board indicated that unless it was an emergency, they’d like to
have Mr. West bring information forward first to the Airport
Advisory Committee and then bring it before the Commissioners. They
discussed having a transition plan in place from the Public Works
Department and to see what is needed to have all services under one
roof within 6 weeks. Mr. West’s work schedule will be 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, noting there may be some odd hours,
depending on the situation. If there are any changes to his work
schedule, Mr. West was directed to contact the Chairman. Dan
Carlson, CDS Director was assigned to be a mentor for Mr. West.
There will be a trailer set up at the airport for Mr. West’s office,
but in the meantime, it will be in Room 108 at the Morris-Sorensen
Building.
Mr. West said he was eager to learn about the airport and intends on
working closely with other airports in the area. The Board advised
Mr. West to work closely with Judy Pless, Budget & Finance Manager
and Liz Remeto, Finance Manager.
Commissioner Wright offered to take Mr. West out to tour the Airport
facilities. Staff was directed to schedule a one-week follow up
meeting with Mr. West, along with a monthly (reoccurring) Study
Session.
