AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: April 21, 2020
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Acknowledge an MOU between the Kittitas
County Sheriff's Office and the Social Security Administration to exchange information
and receive payments in accordance with the Social Security Act.
BACKGROUND: This MOU sets out the terms by which SSA, as authorized under the
Social Security Act, enters into agreements with institutions such as Kittitas County
Corrections Center (KCCC) to obtain certain information about confined individuals. If,
through this agreement, incarcerated individuals receiving SSA benefits and meeting
certain other specific criteria are identified, SSA may make payment to the institution, as
also authorized under the Social Security Act. Currently WASPC compiles this data
from our institution (KCCC) and transmits it to SSA. KCCC, as the originator of the
information, then receives payment from SSA.
INTERACTION: This agreement was reviewed and approved by the Kittitas County
Prosecutor's Office.
RECOMMENDATION: Request to Acknowledge an MOU between the Kittitas
County Sheriffs Office and the Social Security Administration to exchange information
and receive payments in accordance with the Social Security Act.
HANDLING: Sheriff's Office to provide a fully executed MOU to the BOCC upon
signature by SSA.
