AGENDA DATE: May 21, 2019
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve Resolution with the WA State Parks and
Recreation Commission and Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office for Recreational Boating
Safety Federal Financial Assistance Grant
BACKGROUND: The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has worked with the Washington
State Parks and Recreation Commission in years past. The Boating Safety Program funds
are available to assist the Sheriff’s Office with local marine law enforcement efforts for
one year from the date of the grantor’s signature. The funds are specifically for reducing
boating-related loss of life, personal injury, and property damage. This money is federal
in origin and totals $13,390.12.
The required matching amount for this grant is $5,322.19, per State Parks. This
requirement will be accomplished with salaries and benefits for marine patrol deputies
working on regular time shifts. This is funded through vessel registration fees.
INTERACTION: The Kittitas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has reviewed and
approved this grant.
RECOMMENDATION: Request to Approve Resolution with the WA State Parks and
Recreation Commission and Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office for Recreational Boating
Safety Federal Financial Assistance Grant
HANDLING: Sheriff’s Office to return one signed Interlocal Agreement to BOCC.
