KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: March 5, 2019 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution Imposing Weight <br />Restrictions on County Gravel Roads beginning on March <br />15'x' and ending May 1", 2019 <br />BACKGROUND: Annually, during thaw conditions, a handful of county <br />gravel roads experience damage from heavy vehicle traffic. <br />Authority imposing weight restrictions resides with the <br />Board of County Commissioners (RCW 36.75.270) and <br />Public Works cannot take any action imposing weight <br />restrictions without Board action. <br />Public Works proposes having the Board impose blanket <br />restrictions on all county roads via resolution and direct <br />Public Works to notice (paper of record) specific <br />restrictions as appropriate. Public Works will also post the <br />noticed restrictions on each road subsequent to the legal <br />notice in the County's newspaper of record. This process <br />allows Public Works to act quickly as conditions develop <br />and minimizes any delay owing to Board action. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution Imposing Weight Restrictions on <br />County Gravel Roads beginning on March 15a' and ending <br />on May 1", 2019. <br />HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution, County Gravel Road List <br />LEAD STAFF: Mark R.
