KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: Tuesday, February 5, 2019
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Notice of Call for Bids to Purchase a
Sheriff s Office 21 ' — 23' Primary Marine Patrol Boat to Replace Marine 1, Vehicle
#0212, Using the Vehicle Registration Fund Balance and Restricted Money in the Law
and Justice Fund Reserved for this Purpose, and Surplus Vehicles 0212 and 0213 for
Trade-in Value.
BACKGROUND: The Kittitas County Sheriff s Office needs to replace the current
marine patrol boat, known as Marine 1, vehicle number 0212, VIN WFE01813I203 . This
is a 20' 2003 Custom Weld Cobra SE aluminum boat with its own dedicated trailer
(vehicle number 0213, VIN 1 C9BCC222131713671). The boat is used year-round in
marine patrol work, mainly on the Columbia River and Upper County lakes, and is at or
past its useful life for safe marine patrol operation.
In the preliminary 2016 budget discussions, KCSO and the BOCC agreed to earmark
$60,000 in the Law and Justice Fund for the future purchase of a boat. Additionally, there
is at least $45,000 available in the Vehicle Registration Fund (VRF) available for the
purchase of a boat. Finally, the estimated trade-in value of Marine 1 and its trailer is
$15,000-$20,000. The total cost of a new boat will be over $100,000, necessitating the
formal bid process.
INTERACTION: The bid proposal was reviewed and approved by the Kittitas County
Prosecutor's Office.
RECOMMENDATION: Request to Approve a Notice of Call for Bids to Purchase a
Sheriff s Office 21 ' — 23' Primary Marine Patrol Boat to Replace Marine 1, Vehicle
#0212, Using the Vehicle Registration Fund Balance and Restricted Money in the Law
and Justice Fund Reserved for this Purpose, and Surplus Vehicles 0212 and 0213 for
Trade-in Value.
HANDLING: No handling
LEAD STAFF: Undersheriff Clay Myers
