EXTENDING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR AS INTERIM COUNTY ROAD
ENGINEER FOR AN ADDITIONAL SIX MONTHS ENDING MAY 23, 2019
WHEREAS: The Board of County Commissioners appointed the Public Works Director as
Interim County Road Engineer pursuant to Resolution 2018-066; and
WHEREAS: Public Works has begun the solicitation process for hiring a County Road
Engineer; and
WHEREAS: The hiring process will likely exceed the date established (11-23-2018) by the
Board (Resolution 2018-066) for hiring a full time replacement County Road
Engineer; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners, in the
best interest of the public, does hereby extend the Public Works Director as Interim County
Engineer for an additional period of six months ending on May 23, 2019.

RE: Kittitas County Road Engineer
Dear Mr. Woods:
We are transmitting Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners Resolution 2018-159
(attached) for your consideration. The action is necessary as we are beginning open solicitation
for the vacant County Road Engineer position vacated by Mr. Lucas Huck. We anticipate
advertising an initial 30 days before interviewing first round candidates. It is unlikely that we
will have an employee here until early December at the earliest.
During the past five months, our Engineering Services Manager (Ms. Sara Folk) has job
shadowed me in actions before the Board of County Commissioners. She has gained specific
County Road Engineer experience and we both believe the time has come to solicit the industry
for interested candidates. It is my expectation that Ms. Folk will apply for the vacant County
Road Engineer position. Thank you for your patience during the past five months allowing us to
create a professional development opportunity for Ms. Folk.
