KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: June 19, 2018 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Conduct a Public Hearing to consider approval of KCC <br />Chapter 6.01 Dog Control Ordinance <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: Kittitas County recently approved (November 2017) KCC <br />Chapter 6.01 Dog Control Ordinance after conducting a <br />public hearing. After action was taken, the Kittitas County <br />Sheriff notified the Board of County Commissioners with <br />concerns about the enforceability of some components of <br />the new ordinance. Kittitas County Public Health also <br />expressed some concerns at the public hearing regarding <br />the portions of the ordinance pertaining to rabies control. <br />Finally, the Kittitas County Prosecutor’s office discovered <br />a noticing error with the consideration and approval of the <br />original ordinance essentially rendering the previous action <br />void. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Jewell worked with the Sheriff’s office to <br />amend the previous version of the ordinance. The Public <br />Health Department submitted amendments to address their <br />concerns regarding the rabies control elements. The <br />noticing requirements for considering this version have <br />been properly followed. <br /> <br /> Before the Board and the public for consideration is a new <br />version of KCC Chapter 6.01 Dog Control Ordinance. <br /> <br />INTERACTION: BOCC, Public Health, Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Conduct a public hearing and consider enacting the <br />proposed KCC 6.01 Dog Control Ordinance.
