AGENDA DATE: June 19, 2018
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the Resolution Authorizing the Chair's signature
on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus for the
2018 Kittitas County Safety Improvements Project
BACKGROUND: The 2018 Kittitas County Safety Improvements Project will
provide for safety improvements on several different road
segments to lessen the severity of run -off -the -road
accidents by installing guardrail where necessary to protect
roadside hazards.
Public Works successfully received Surface Transportation
Block Grant federal funds in the amount of $203,275 with a
13.5% local match requirement.
This project will be tied with the Roadside Hazard Safety
Improvements project and the two projects will be
advertised for construction as a single contract. The
roadway segments addressed by this project were identified
outside of the Kittitas County 2017 Safety Plan as
additional areas where safety improvements were needed.
Public Works is preparing to advertise the project for
construction in the fall of 2018 and is requesting the release
of the Federal Construction Funds. This requires the Local
Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus to be signed and
approved by the Chair of the BOCC.

AUTHORIZING THE CHAIR'S SIGNATURE ON THE LOCAL AGENCY
FEDERAL AID PROJECT PROSPECTUS FOR THE 2018 KITTITAS COUNTY
SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
WHEREAS: The 2018 Kittitas County Safety Improvements Project will provide for
safety improvements on several different road segments to lessen the
severity of run -off -the -road accidents by installing guardrail where
necessary to protect roadside hazards; and
WHEREAS: This project will be tied with the Roadside Hazard Safety Improvements
project, which also provides for safety improvements on several roadway
segments countywide to lessen the severity of run -off -the -road accidents;
and
WHEREAS: Public Works received Surface Transportation Block Grant federal funds
in the amount of $203,275 with a 13.5% local match requirement; and
WHEREAS: In preparation to advertise the project for construction in the fall of 2018
Public Works is requesting the Washington State Department of
Transportation to release the Federally Funds for construction; and
WHEREAS: A Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus must be executed by the
Chair acknowledging the project has been reviewed and is consistent with
the agency's comprehensive plan for community development; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners, in
the best interest of the public, does hereby approve the Chair's signature
on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project Prospectus for the 2018 Kittitas
County Safety Improvements Project.
