KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: June 19, 2018 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the Resolution to Award the contract for the Manastash <br />Road Bridge 476132 Replacement project <br />BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works solicited bids for the <br />Manastash Road Bridge #76132 Replacement contract in <br />accordance with RCW 36.77.020 Contract Procedures. Sealed <br />Bids were opened on June 13, 2018 at I Oam. <br />Six (6) bids were received for the prescribed work. The lowest <br />responsive bid was from Belsaas & Smith in the amount of <br />$1,767,038.00, which is under the Engineer's Estimate. <br />This contract provides for the necessary replacement of bridge <br />#76131 on Manastash Road over the South Fork of Manastash <br />Creek. The existing bridge exhibits significant deterioration in <br />both the superstructure and the foundation. Spalling, cracked, <br />and delaminated girders with large areas of exposed, corroded <br />reinforcing steel have required this structure to be restricted to a <br />load limit for a single vehicle not to exceed 22 tons gross weight. <br />Scour also threatens the foundation on the existing bridge. <br />The new bridge will be able to accommodate full legal loads, and <br />will have an increased span length that will provide adequate <br />hydraulic opening and will meet fish passage requirements. <br />The Department of Public works has secured federal funds from <br />the 2017 Local Bridge Program (formerly known as BRAC) as <br />well as state funds from the Rural Arterial Program for this <br />project. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve the Resolution to Award the Contract for the <br />Manastash Road Bridge #76132 Replacement Project and <br />Authorize the Director of Public Works to Execute Same <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) copy to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution, Bid Tabulations <br />LEAD STAFF: Sara Folk, Engineering Services Manager <br />
