Child Abuse Prevention Month
April 2018
WHEREAS, children are vital to our County's future success, prosperity and quality of life and
are our most vulnerable assets;
WHEREAS, all children deserve to have safe, stable, nurturing homes and communities to
foster their healthy growth and development;
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect affects both the current and future quality of life of a
community;
WHEREAS, communities help ensure that all children grow to their full potential by providing
parents with social support, knowledge of parenting and child development, and concrete
resources to help them nurture their children;
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of partnerships among
citizens, human service agencies, schools, faith communities, health care providers, civic
organizations, law enforcement agencies and the business community;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners proclaim April 2018 as
Child Abuse Prevention Month and call upon all citizens, community agencies, faith groups,
medical facilities, elected leaders and businesses in Kittitas County to participate in the efforts to
support families, thereby preventing child abuse and strengthening the communities in which we
live.

RE: Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation
Dear Commissioners:
March 15,2018
This is to request that the County of Kittitas proclaim the month of April 2018 as Child Abuse Prevention
Month. Child Abuse Prevention Month is recognized throughout the country annually during the month
of April.
For your convenience, I am attaching a proclamation that may be used. It would be appreciated if this
matter could be on the agenda for your first meeting in April, which I believe will be April 2.
Court Advocates for Children is the not for profit agency providing Kittitas County Superior Court with
trained volunteers to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in dependency
proceedings. We would be happy to send a representative from our agency to speak briefly to the
proclamation at the meeting if that would be desired.

elected leaders and businesses in the County of Kittitas to participate in efforts to
support families, thereby preventing child abuse and strengthening the communities in
which we live.
