AGENDA DATE: June 5, 2018
ACTION REQUESTED: Deny Claim of Ryan Wales.
BACKGROUND: The claimant, Ryan Wales (“Mr. Wales”), claims damages of
approximately $1,212.20, for damage (“paint chips”) to his truck
allegedly caused by debris falling off of a county dump truck on
March 27, 2018. Kittitas County Claim # 201804120025.
INTERACTION: The Public Works Director conducted an internal review of the claim
and concluded a current county dump truck did not cause the damages
listed in the claim. Public Works says it takes great care to not
overload its vehicles with light materials that can be airborne. The
county dump trucks that were in the area listed in the claim on March
27, 2018 were not carrying the type of material listed in the claim.
Public Works’ employees saw other dump trucks in the area that day,
likely surplus vehicles obtained from the county, which may have led
to Mr. Wales’ impression these vehicles were still owned and
operated by the county. Staff recommends denial of this claim.
RECOMMENDATION: Deny Kittitas County Claim # 201804120025.
