KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF’S OFFICE

AGENDA STAFF REPORT

AGENDA DATE: May 15, 2018

ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Acknowledge the Recreational Boating Safety
Federal Financial Assistance Grant.

BACKGROUND: The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has worked with the Washington
State Parks and Recreation Commission in years past. The Boating Safety Program funds
are available to assist the Sheriff’s Office with local marine law enforcement efforts for
one year from the date of the grantor’s signature. The funds are specifically for reducing
boating-related loss of life, personal injury, and property damage. This money is federal
in origin and totals $15,009.71.

The required matching amount for this grant is $9,576.15, per State Parks. This
requirement will be accomplished with salaries and benefits for marine patrol deputies
working on regular time shifts. This is funded through vessel registration fees.

INTERACTION: The Kittitas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has reviewed and
approved this grant.

RECOMMENDATION: Request to Approve the Recreational Boating Safety Federal
Financial Assistance Grant.

HANDLING: Return one set of originals to KCSO which we will mail to the grantor for
their records, per their request.

LEAD STAFF: Clay Myers
