ACTION REQUESTED: Approve a Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the Number 6
Road Bridge #79051 Replacement Project
BACKGROUND: The bridge on Number 6 Road over Town Ditch is in need
of replacement. The substructure - originally built in 1955
- is severely abraided, and the abutments are experiencing
settlement due to erosion that has occurred below the
footings. The existing structure is very narrow, measuring
only 23.7' wide from curb to curb.
This project will replace the existing bridge with a new
structure that is 32.0' wide. This additional width will
adequately support projected future traffic volumes. The
replacement bridge will be founded on piles, making it less
susceptible to settlement.
The contract plans, specifications, and engineers estimate
were prepared by KPFF.
The Engineers estimate for the proposed project is
$710,645. Kittitas County Public Works has received
$684,900 in funds from the Rural Arterial Program for this
project.
Bids are scheduled to be opened publicly on May 25th,
2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Public Works Department.

RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the
Number 6 Road Bridge 479051 Replacement Project.

TO AUTHORIZE THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO AUTHORIZE A
NOTICE OF CALL FOR BIDS FOR THE NUMBER 6 ROAD BRIDGE #79051
REPLACEMENT PROJECT
WHEREAS: The bridge on Number 6 Road over Town Ditch is in need of replacement
due to deteriorating substructure and substandard width; and
WHEREAS: The plans and specifications for the Number 6 Road Bridge #79051
Replacement are complete; and
WHEREAS: The Department of Public Works received Rural Arterial Program funding
from the County Road Administration Board for this project; and
WHEREAS: This Construction Project is included on the Six Year Transportation
Improvement Plan and the Annual Construction Plan; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners, in
the best interest of the public, does hereby direct the Director of Public
Works to prepare a Notice to Contractors for a call for bids.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that bids will be received until 10:00 am on Friday,
May 25, 2018 at the office of the Department of Public Works, 411 North
Ruby Street, Suite 1, Ellensburg, Washington, to be publicly read aloud
after 10:00 am on Friday, May 25, 2018, in the Department of Public
Works, Ellensburg, Washington.

KITTITAS COUNTY ELLENSBURG, WASHINGTON
Sealed bids will be received by the Kittitas County Public Works, at the reception desk located at 411 North Ruby Street,
Suite 1, Ellensburg, Washington until 10:00 AM on *** May 25, 2018 *** and will then and there be opened and publicly
read for the construction of the improvements.
All bid proposals shall be accompanied by a bid proposal deposit in cash, certified check, cashier's check, or surety bond in
an amount equal to five percent (5%) of the amount of such bid proposal. Should the successful bidder fail to enter into such
contract and furnish satisfactory performance and payment bonds within the time stated in the specifications, the bid
proposal deposit shall be forfeited to the Kittitas County Public Works.
The right is reserved to reject any and all bids and to waiver informalities in the bidding.

The Kittitas County in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 78 Stat. 252, 42 USC 2000d to
2000d-4 and Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Department of Transportation, Subtitle A, Office of the
Secretary, Part 21, Nondiscrimination in Federally -Assisted Programs of the Department of Transportation issued
pursuant to such Act, hereby notifies all bidders that it will affirmatively ensure that in any contract entered into
pursuant to this advertisement, disadvantaged business enterprises as defined at 49 CFR Part 26 will be afforded full
opportunity to submit bids in response to this invitation and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race,
color, national origin, or sex in consideration for an award.
The improvement for which bids will be received is described below
This Contract provides for the replacement of the Number 6 Road Bridge over Town Canal, including removal of existing
bridge structure, pile driving, construction of concrete cast -in-place pile caps, abutments, wingwalls, precast slab girder
placement, minor channel grading, re -grading and paving roadway approaches, and other work, all in accordance with the
attached Contract Plans, Contract Provisions, and the Standard Specifications.
