Kittitas County <br />Superior Court <br /> <br />Agenda Staff Report <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: <br />2/6/2018 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Request to execute Agreement for Kittitas County Superior Court Indigent Defense Services with Brumley <br />and Hull, PLLC. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At least since 1989 indigent defense in the Kittitas County Superior Court has been provided by willing <br />attorneys volunteering to have their names placed upon a list off of which the Court appoints attorneys. <br />Under this system the Court has compensated the attorneys on a per-case basis, with additional funding <br />being available for time spent in trial, and for complex or abnormally time-consuming cases. In 2018 the <br />Court is moving to contract attorneys as already implemented in the Lower and Upper Kittitas County <br />District Courts. Contracts will be provided to individual attorneys and law firms. The contracts provide <br />how many cases will be completed by each attorney and the rate of pay thereon.
