Additional insurance to include Kittitas County <br />has been requested and will be sent to you soon. <br />The sixteenth annual Yakima River Canyon Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2016, with a <br />starting time of 8:00 a.m. on Canyon Road, a short distance south of the Flying J Truck Stop. The <br />wheelchair participants will start at 7:55 a.m. All participants will go north on Canyon Road, turn right <br />onto Berry Road, go east to Tjossem Road, and then .2 mile on Canyon Road. Next will be the <br />Woodhouse Loop Road from north to south, and back to Canyon Road for the remainder of the 26.2 <br />miles. The finish line is located at the "truck turnaround" just north of the Sundown M Ranch in <br />Yakima County. All Half Marathon runners will be bused to their 9:30 a.m. start at the 13.1 mile mark <br />of the full marathon. They'll use the last half of the course of the full marathon. <br />The following are answers to the questionnaire: <br />1. Fire Safetv and Protection - This is an outdoor event, and no temporary structure will be erected in <br />Kittitas County for the event. Per a phone conversation with Fire Marshal Brenda Larson in 2012, a <br />permit is not necessary. <br />2. Public Health/Environmental Health – (a) During a phone call in 2012 with Melissa Schumaier, I <br />explained to her that the ten aid stations in Kitittas County provide water and sports drinks, and two <br />of them have pretzels, gummy bears etc. for the participants (all purchased items) ...... as we've done <br />in the past. She assured me then and now that a permit is not necessary to do this. (b) There will be <br />indoor bathroom facilities and porta potties available at the Conference Building of the Days Inn, <br />gathering place on race morning. In addition, there will be porta potties at the starting line on <br />Canyon Road and one or more at each aid station. <br />3. Law Enforcement/Security/Emergency Medical Services – (a) Security, EMS and Traffic <br />Control.....The Yakima River Canyon Marathon committee is working with the sheriff's <br />departments of Kittitas and Yakima counties, the Ellensburg and Yakima Police Departments and <br />the Washington State Department of Transportation to provide a safe race for all participants. <br />Chaplain Bill Hunt of the Kittitas County Sheriff's office is the coordinator for the deputies who will <br />assist us on race day. They will work with ham radio operators of Yakima and Kittitas counties who <br />will be at all aid stations on the course and at the finish area in rural Selah. A medical tent at the <br />finish area will be staffed with a doctor and some nurses, and an ambulance will be available there as <br />well. (b) Music .... There will be music on the course near the end of the race, nothing excessively <br />loud and not after 3:00 p.m. (c) Off-site parking.....The only parking that is needed is a small <br />
