STAFF REPORT
SESSION DATE: January 19, 2016
ACTION REQUESTED: Sign the Resolution Imposing a Load Limit on
Manastash Bridge No. 76131
BACKGROUND: During 2015 bridge inspection of Manastash
Bridge No. 76131, staff observed significant
deterioration of several concrete girders.
Staff requested a structural revaluation from
Sargent Engineers, Inc. (Public Works on call
structural engineering firm). The
recommendation is for setting a single vehicle
load limit on the bridge of 22 gross tons.
Once the load limit is set by resolution and
advertised at least once in a newspaper of
general circulation in the county, and signs
posted noticing of the load limit, any person
violating such resolution shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor (RCW 36.75.270).
INTERACTION: Public Works
RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve and sign the Resolution.
HANDLING: Return (2) originals to Public Works.

RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS: Kittitas County inspects bridges within County right of way on a regular
basis consistent with federal and state inspection requirements; and
WHEREAS: Recent inspection of Manastash Road Bridge No. 76131 confirms
significant concrete girder deterioration; and
WHEREAS: Public Works requested a structural evaluation by Sargent Engineers,
Inc. resulting in a recommended load limit for the bridge; and
WHEREAS: Public Works anticipates bridge repairs taking a minimum of two years;
and
WHEREAS: A load limit for a single vehicle not to exceed 22 tons gross weight is
recommended for the bridge by Sargent Engineers, Inc.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Kittitas County Board of County
Commissioners does impose a load limit of 22 tons gross weight on
Manastash Road Bridge No. 76131 for single vehicles for an initial period
of two years and does hereby authorize chair signature for the
aforementioned.
