I'm <br />enclosing a check for $200.00 with the Special Event Application to cover the new <br />permit fee. <br />The tenth annual Yakima River Canyon Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, March 27, <br />2010, with a starting time of 8:00 a.m. on Canyon Road, a short distance south of the <br />Flying J Truck Stop. The wheelchair participants will start at 7:55 a.m. All participants <br />will go north on Canyon Road, turn right onto Berry Road, go east to Tjossem Road, and <br />then .2 mile on Canyon Road. Next will be the Woodhouse Loop Road from north to <br />south, and back to Canyon Road for the remainder of the 26.2 miles. The finish line is <br />located at the "truck turnaround" just north of the Sundown M Ranch in Yakima County. <br />The Yakima Rieger Canyon Marathon committee is working with the sherifr s <br />departments of Kittitas and Yakima counties, the Ellensburg and Yakima Police <br />Departments, Washington State Patrol, and the Department of Transportation to provide a <br />safe race for all participants. Gene Dana, Kittitas County Sheriff, is the traffic flow <br />director and will be assisted by ham radio operators of Yakima and Kittitas counties. <br />Sheriff Dana and you will be the recipients of our insurance coverage that will be issued <br />within the next few weeks. Because of this insurance coverage, please cask the Board of <br />County Commissioners to waive the 5.10100 Penal bond – Bond of Indemnity <br />requirement. <br />One of the goals of the Yakima River Canyon Marathon committee is to "leave the <br />Canyon cleaner than we found it on. race day." For our past nine, successful races this <br />has been accomplished, and the same steps will be taken again this year to make sure that <br />this will happen. <br />Arrangements have already been made to provide adequate porta potties on the course. <br />Nothing has changed :form the past years when we've met all of the requirements of <br />Kittitas County. Please grant us a waiver frown the 60 -dray request for application <br />processing <br />Only local residents, fishermen, volunteers and course officials will be permitted on State <br />Highway 821 form 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Passes will be available for those who need <br />access to the road during the race.
