Board of County Commissioners
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: January 2, 2018
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve Claim of Jackie Peebles.
BACKGROUND: The claimant, Jackie Peebles (“Ms. Peebles”), a Kittitas County
Sheriff’s Office employee, claims damages of over $1,748.60, for
damage to her personal vehicle caused by the door of a county
vehicle. Kittitas County Claim # 201711150066.
INTERACTION: The incident alleged in the Claim involved a current Kittitas County
Deputy Sheriff, who wrote a report admitting he caused the damage to
Ms. Peebles’ vehicle. The Sheriff recommends approval of this
claim.
This Claim was originally placed on the December 19, 2017 BoCC
Agenda. However, the BoCC requested staff hire an independent
adjuster to verify the reasonableness of the amount of damages
claimed. The adjuster’s report indicates estimated repair costs of
$1750.71, nearly the same as the amount claimed.
The repair shop, ProStar, is willing to waive supplemental billing
charges of $222 if the County agrees to pay the amount claimed,
$1,748.60.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Kittitas County Claim # 201711150066, in the amount of
$1,748.60, contingent upon receipt of a signed Release of all Claims
from Ms. Peebles.
