KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: December 19`h, 2017
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve County Road Project for the repair and re-establishment
of Manastash Road from MP 10.56 to MP 10.64
BACKGROUND: Kittitas County is proposing to replace Bridge #76131 on
Manastash Road crossing Manastash Creek. The existing structure
is 28' deck width (curb -to -curb) and 32' in length and was
constructed in 1975. The bridge is currently restricted to a load
limit for a single vehicle not to exceed 22 tons gross weight. The
existing bridge has deteriorating conditions in both the
superstructure and the foundation.
Manastash Road provides a regionally significant east -west
connection through the lower county, providing access to logging
(both on DNR lands and large private parcels), recreation (USFS
lands), ranching and farming areas, and rural residences. This
bridge replacement is needed in order to provide adequate
structural capacity to meet design/legal loading and to improve
hydraulic opening and stream mitigation allowance; and thus,
maintain public safety and improve mobility.
Public Works is working together with Jacobs Engineering to
design the project which will include bridge replacement, bank and
stream stabilization measures, and roadway realignment.
Public Works received partial funding from CRAB in September
in the amount of $315,480 for the bridge replacement and recently
received funding from FHWA's BRAC program for $2,746,970
for this project.
INTERACTION: Public Works
RECOMMENDATION: Board of County Commissioners to approve and sign the CRP
form for the repair and re-establishment of Manastash Road from
MP 10.56 to MP 10.64
HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works
ATTACHMENTS: CRP form for Board approval
LEAD STAFF: Lucas Huck
County Engineer
