September 30, 2017

Paul Jewell, Chairman
Kittitas County Board of Commissioners
205 West 5th Avenue, Suite 108
Ellensburg, WA 98926-2887

RE: County support for the Dial a Ride program for 2017

Dear Commissioner Jewell,

Pursuant to our agreement, in past years, HopeSource has provided a view of last year’s
services as well as a mid-year annual report along with our request for continued funding for
the following year.

In 2016 we have had the privilege with your support to provide over 23,248 rides and
impacting over 587 rider’s lives to the better. Our buses have traveled over 156,183 miles to
provide this service, and over 44% of those served are 60 yrs. of age or older with 151 over the
age of 75. The top three ride types were scheduled for were employment at 40%, and 16% for both
social services and nutrition.

2017 is showing us that there is proven continued need with a growing elderly population
dependent on the support and compassion of its community. Already you have helped to
provide through the Dial a Ride program 15,003 rides through September, to 400 members of
our community over the distance of 129,209 miles. Over 48% of those served are over the age
of 60 with 107 of which are 75 or older. We are just about to enter quarter three and are
continuing to show an continued need for safe guarding our heritage.

In past years we have not requested as much supporting funds but with increased service levels
and overhead costs we are requesting an increase in support to the Dial a Ride program of
$12,000 for 2018. Your support is critical in helping us to meet the required match dollar to
receive the State funding of $1,121,903

Thank you for your continued support of HopeSource Transit.

Sincerely,

Aaron Blum
Transportation Supervisor HopeSource
