ACTION REQUESTED: REQUEST TO SET A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER A CHANGE TO
COUNTY CODE TO ALLOW FOR COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
TRANSPARENCY
BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners has received a request from
the Freedom Foundation to hold collective bargaining contract
negotiations in an open public meeting format.
The Open Public Meetings Act (RCW 42.30.140) permits collective
bargaining contract negotiations to be exempted from the open
public meetings requirements.
The Board has met with key stakeholders and asked HR Director
Young to place the request for a public hearing on the Agenda for
consideration. The public hearing date would be Tuesday,
November 7, 2017.
