KITTITAS COUNTY <br />Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: September 5, 2017 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request Boards approval to set a public hearing regarding a <br />fee increase for the Solid Waste Department. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: The Solid Waste Department operates two house hold <br />hazardous waste facilities and numerous recycling programs <br />which have been funded through a grant from the Department <br />of Ecology. This year the State has not approved the Capital <br />budget for the next biennium which provides for the funding of <br />this program. <br /> <br /> As of July 1, 2017 the Solid Waste Department was forced to <br />close its hazardous waste facilities, and recycling programs. <br /> <br /> The Solid Waste Advisory Committee has met and recommend <br />revising our tip fee to add $3.50 per ton to cover the cost to <br />reopen our facilities. <br /> <br /> After reviewing the Solid Waste Fee schedule it was determine <br />that a rate increase would be needed to offset the increase by <br />Waste Management. <br /> <br /> <br />INTERACTION: Solid Waste <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Recommend the approve setting a public hearing for <br />September 19, 2017 at 2:00pm to discuss the fee increase. <br /> <br />HANDLING: Return to Solid Waste <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: Public Notice <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Patti Johnson <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
