AGENDA DATE: September 5, 2017
ACTION REQUESTED: Request Boards approval to set a public hearing regarding a
fee increase for the Solid Waste Department.
BACKGROUND: The Solid Waste Department operates two house hold
hazardous waste facilities and numerous recycling programs
which have been funded through a grant from the Department
of Ecology. This year the State has not approved the Capital
budget for the next biennium which provides for the funding of
this program.
As of July 1, 2017 the Solid Waste Department was forced to
close its hazardous waste facilities, and recycling programs.
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee has met and recommend
revising our tip fee to add $3.50 per ton to cover the cost to
reopen our facilities.
After reviewing the Solid Waste Fee schedule it was determine
that a rate increase would be needed to offset the increase by
Waste Management.
INTERACTION: Solid Waste
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend the approve setting a public hearing for
September 19, 2017 at 2:00pm to discuss the fee increase.
HANDLING: Return to Solid Waste
