SUBJECT: Concurrence with Request of City of Kittitas to Annex to Kittitas County
Fire District #2, Request Kittitas County to Call a Special Election on the
Annexation
WHEREAS, the City of Kittitas approached Kittitas County Fire District #2 to discuss a
combined fire and EMS response for both jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, on July 24, 2017, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 17-013, stating it
intent to annex to the District pursuant to RCW 52.04.061; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Fire Commissioners desires to concur in the determination of
the City Council to annex the City to the District;
THEREFORE, BE IT REOLVED, by the Board of Fire Commissioners of Kittitas County Fire District
#2, Kittitas County, Washington, as follows:
Section 1. The Board of Fire Commissioners finds that the public interest will be
served by the annexation of the City of Kittitas, Washington, to the Kittitas
County Fire District #2. Therefore, the Board of Fire Commissioners
concurs in such annexation as requested by the City of Kittitas in Ordinance
17-013 passed by the City Council on July 24, 2017. This Resolution
constitutes the Board's official concurrence with the annexation pursuant
to RCW 52.04.061
Section 2. The District Fire Chief is authorized and directed to cause a notice of
intention for the annexation of the City of Kittitas to Kittitas County Fire
District #2, to be filed with the Kittitas County Commssioners, and to cause
a certified copy of this Resolution to be filed with the Kittitas County Board
of Commissioners and the Kittitas County Auditor.
Section 3. The Board of Fire Commissioners requests that the Kittitas County Board
of Commissioners shall by resolution call a special election in both the City
of Kittitas and the Kittitas County Fire District #2, in conjunction with the
the State General Election to be held on November 7, 2017, on the
question of whether the City of Kittitas should be annexed to Kittitas
County Fire District #2. The ballot proposition shall be in substantially the
following form:
Shall the City of Kittitas be annexed to and be a part of Kittitas County
Fire District #2 effective January 1, 2018?
