KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: August 1st, 2017 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: To Award the Bid for Design, Fabricating, Finishing and <br />Transporting a Steel Modular Bridge and Authorize the <br />Public Works Director to Execute the Same <br />BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works solicited bids for the <br />procurement of a 90 foot temporary steel bridge. The <br />bridge will be constructed of one 60 foot section and one <br />30 foot section. Each section can be deployed <br />independently or together for larger spans. The bridge will <br />be 14 foot wide with wood decking and crash rated railing. <br />The procurement of the bridge will be funded by the <br />previously approved FEMA alternative project (November <br />2015 flooding event at Ringer Loop). This alternative <br />project allowed the County to procure equipment to assist <br />in future flood events in lieu of repairing the damaged <br />roadway section of Ringer Loop. <br />Sealed bids were received by Public Works on July 21St, <br />2017 at 10:00 a.m. The engineers estimate reflected a total <br />project cost of $159,075.00. <br />Three (3) bids were received for the prescribed work. <br />Public Works recommends awarding the contract to Big R <br />Bridge for the amount of $147,678.53 approximately 7% <br />under the engineers estimate. <br />Work will commence immediately and the temporary <br />bridge will be supplied prior to October 31St, 2017. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve a resolution awarding the Contract for <br />Design, Fabricating, Finishing and Transporting a Steel <br />Modular Bridge and Authorize the Public Works Director <br />to Execute the Same. <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) copy to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Bid Tabs <br />LEAD STAFF: Lucas Huck, County Engineer <br />
