Ruby St., Suite 2, Ellensburg, WA 98926 <br />CDS@CO.KITTITAS.WA.US <br />Office (509) 962-7506 <br />Fax (509) 962-7682 <br /> <br />“Building Partnerships – Building Communities” <br /> <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: June 6, 2017 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to set Public Hearing for July 10, 2017 to Consider Extension of Moratorium on <br />Solar Projects that Qualify as Major Alternative Energy Systems <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: On January 10, 2017, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners adopted a moratorium in <br />accordance with RCW 36.70A.390 for solar projects that qualify as “Major Alternative <br />Energy Systems” as defined by Kittitas County Code. On March 9, 2017, the Board <br />conducted a public hearing and approved the extension of the moratorium until July 10, <br />2017. According to RCW 36.70A.390, the moratorium may be effective for up to one year <br />if a work plan is developed for related studies for providing for such a longer period. The <br />moratorium may be renewed for a six-month period if a subsequent public hearing is held <br />and findings of fact are made. Staff is requesting that the Board of Commissioners set a <br />public hearing for July 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. to consider extension of this moratorium. <br /> <br /> <br />INTERACTION: Board of Commissioners, Community Development Services <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Board of Commissioners set the public hearing for Monday, July <br />10, 2017 at 6:00 in the Commissioner’s Auditorium. <br /> <br />HANDLING: None <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: None <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Dan Carlson, AICP, Community Development Services Director
