KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF'S STUDY SESSION MINUTES
COMMISSIONERS' AUDITORIUM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 109 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting
WEDNESDAY 8:00 AM December 3, 2025
Board members present: Chairman Laura Osiadacz, Vice -Chairman Cory Wright, and Commissioner
Brett Wachsmith.
Others: Sheriff Myers, Chief Darren Highashiyama, Chief Admin. Deputy Nancy Shaff, Superintendent
Steve Panattoni and Security Deputy James Woody.
Citizen Comments: None
Discuss scheduling a Courthouse Fire Drill: Need to get a date on the books, Commissioners need to
approve the date. It was asked how much time would be needed; it was estimated to be about one hour.
Darren suggested some guidance information be put out to all who work in the Courthouse on how to
proceed if there is a fire. This way folks are prepared for the drill. Then plan the date for some time in
2026. In planning the date, the Courts need to be consulted to make sure it happens during a time that will
impact them the least. It was discussed that Thursdays are the busiest docket days, but then it was
suggested it could still be held on Thursday, just after the docket. Fire Command is needed. Vice -
Chairman Wright said let's get it planned.
Request for approval to purchase meals/refreshments for annual award ceremony: Sheriff Myers
asked the Commissioners to approve of providing meals at our Annual Award Meeting at the end of
February. He told them the Sheriff's Association would be paying for half, and the cost estimate is a little
over $3,000. Commissioners had no issues and approved the request.
Other Business: Commissioner Wright asked about the grooming for Salmon La -sac, if Sheriff had any
updates on what would be happening from the USFS. Sheriff said he had not heard anything but knew the
USFS was scaling back. He was going to check in with Sergeant Goeman, who is the liaison to see what
he knows.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 a.m.
Kim Dawson
2025-12-03 MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
Laura Osiadacz, Chairman
