KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF'S STUDY SESSION MINUTES
COMMISSIONERS' AUDITORIUM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 109 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting
WEDNESDAY 1 8:02 AM February 5,202
Board members present: Chairman Laura Osiadacz, Vice -Chairman Cory Wright,
Commissioner Brett Wachsmith. Others: Sheriff Clay Myers and Inspector Chris Whitsett.
Citizen Comments: None.
Request to Approve a Resolution in support of establishing a state funding source to support
local governmental aviation units supporting Washington law enforcement and search and rescue
units —Sheriff Myers asked that the Board support this Resolution. Vice -Chairman Wright moved
to approve this Resolution and Commissioner Wachsmith second the motion as motion passed.
Discussion on potential issues involving state legislation mandates vs federal executive
mandates -Sheriff Myers brought to Boards attention, as awareness only, and mentioned that
WASPC is also aware as local law enforcement is being pushed on some current mandates.
Other Business: Sheriff Myers informed the Board that prior approval for the purchase of
meals/refreshments should have occurred before the annual award ceremony was held on
01/31/25 and that did not occur. Vice-chairman Wright mentioned we don't want to hold up
paying the vendor, Chairman Osiadacz added to place this on the Boards Monday meeting with
staff report for approval.
Sheriff Myers briefed the Board that the Senate Bill 5066 is subjective; allows to initiate
investigations and puts us under agreement on how we are conducting business, and this should
involve the board and would like physical support with Legislation as this is important and
should voice an opinion.
Vice -Chairman Wright mentioned that a citizen from Vantage contacted him regarding road
closures for locals and DOT. The Sheriff mentioned that Chief Ben Kokjer is the lead on this.
Vice -Chairman Wright asked that Ben contact Josh with Public Works. Another brief discussion
was landowner bridges that need fixed and who is responsible.
Meeting adjourned at 8:33 a.m.
KITTITAS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
KL,vv,- d Uws _
Kim Dawson Laura Osiadacz, Chairman
2025-02-05 MINUTES
