KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: June 4th, 2024
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve the agreement between NIJO and the
Kittitas County Sheriff's Office
BACKGROUND: The Washington Counties Risk Pool (WCRP) is offering 100%
reimbursable funding for member counties to enroll in the online training & certification
program through National Institute for Jail Operation (NIJO). WCRP provided three (3)
scholarship opportunities for member counties to attend a regional seminar called JailCon
of which Kittitas County was selected in 2023 to provide feedback. NIJO offers the
Detention and Corrections Online Training Academy (DACOTA) which provides
corrections professionals with the most interactive and engaging online training available
of over twenty thousand courses. The curriculum is based on current case law, with
videos and rea-life scenarios. The online training is approved for NIJO Professional
Certification towards National Certified Corrections Officer (NCCO), National certified
Corrections Supervisor (NCCS), and National Certified Corrections Executive (NCCE)
level certification. Quality online training reduces travel costs and staffing limitations
back at home.
INTERACTION: The Kittitas County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has reviewed and
approved.
RECOMMENDATION: Request to Approve the agreement between NIJO and the
Kittitas County Sheriff's Office
HANDLING: No handling.
LEAD STAFF: LEC Duncan
