2018-09-28 MINUTES 1 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES <br />KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br />COMMISSIONER’S AUDITORIUM <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />FRIDAY 8:00 A.M. SEPTEMBER 28, 2018 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Laura Osiadacz; Vice-Chairman Obie <br />O’Brien; and Commissioner Cory Wright. <br /> <br />Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Dan Carlson, CDS <br />Director; Clay Myers, Undersheriff/Interim Fire Marshal; Lisa Young, <br />Human Resource Director/Interim Event Center Director; Gene Dana, <br />Sheriff; and 1 members of the public. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING FIRE MARSHAL POSITION COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />At 8:00 a.m. Chairman Osiadacz opened a Special Meeting to consider <br />a decision on the structure of the Fire Marshal/Code Official/Fire <br />Investigator position. <br /> <br />Sheriff Gene Dana said whichever way the Board decides to go with <br />the Fire Marshal position he believed it would work. He explained <br />how they have the infrastructure in place to help support a Fire <br />Marshal, and they would be happy to take it on as it directly <br />relates to public safety. <br /> <br />Commissioner O’Brien moved to approve and authorize the current <br />candidate be offered the position as Fire Marshal and to have the <br />position remain under the direction of the Community Development <br />Services Department, and to direct Staff to include the position of <br />a Deputy Fire Marshal in the 2019 budget. Commissioner Wright <br />seconded. <br /> <br />Commissioner O’Brien explained the benefits of keeping the Fire <br />Marshal position under the direction of CDS and said the candidate <br />meets all the marks. He was in favor of keeping the job description <br />as is too. <br /> <br />Commissioner Wright said he received a lot of good comments over the <br />past week, especially from the building community. He indicated he <br />would not be opposed to revisiting the issue sometime down the road. <br />He said the Board would continue to examine the process and <br />expressed his appreciation to the Sheriff’s Department for serving <br />as the Interim Fire Marshal. <br /> <br />Chairman Osiadacz explained how she did not believe there was a <br />conflict of interest for her in making a decision on the Fire <br />Marshal, but rather she felt she could provide additional
