KITTITAS COUNTY <br />SHERIFF'S OFFICE <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: April 21, 2020 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Acknowledge an MOU between the Kittitas <br />County Sheriff's Office and the Social Security Administration to exchange information <br />and receive payments in accordance with the Social Security Act. <br />BACKGROUND: This MOU sets out the terms by which SSA, as authorized under the <br />Social Security Act, enters into agreements with institutions such as Kittitas County <br />Corrections Center (KCCC) to obtain certain information about confined individuals. If, <br />through this agreement, incarcerated individuals receiving SSA benefits and meeting <br />certain other specific criteria are identified, SSA may make payment to the institution, as <br />also authorized under the Social Security Act. Currently WASPC compiles this data <br />from our institution (KCCC) and transmits it to SSA. KCCC, as the originator of the <br />information, then receives payment from SSA. <br />INTERACTION: This agreement was reviewed and approved by the Kittitas County <br />Prosecutor's Office. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Request to Acknowledge an MOU between the Kittitas <br />County Sheriffs Office and the Social Security Administration to exchange information <br />and receive payments in accordance with the Social Security Act. <br />HANDLING: Sheriff's Office to provide a fully executed MOU to the BOCC upon <br />signature by SSA. <br />LEAD STAFF: Command Staff <br />
