KITTITAS COUNTY <br />Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: June 4, 2019 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to set a Public Hearing <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: The Solid Waste Department has the responsibility of managing the countywide Solid Waste System under terms of RCW 70.95, RCW 36, and the Joint Solid Waste Disposal Agreement. <br />The Joint Solid Waste Disposal System Agreement provides for the system to be operated on user fees and that the County Board of Commissioners are obligated to set disposal rates as <br />necessary to cover expenses from user fees. <br /> <br /> The Solid Waste Department has received notice from Waste Management that of a rate increase for the operation of the Transfer Station, increase in the cost to haul recycling and the <br />disposal of the counties Municipal Solid Waste. In addition the Solid Waste Department received notice that the State will be reducing the amount that the department will be receiving <br />from the Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance program. <br /> <br /> At this time the Solid Waste Department request to set a public hearing on June 18, 2019 at 2:00pm to consider a resolution setting new fees for the Solid Waste Department. <br /> <br /> <br />INTERACTION: Solid Waste Department <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Recommend approval to set a Public Hearing <br /> <br />HANDLING: Clerk of the Board to Advertise public hearing <br /> <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: Public Hearing Notice <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Patti Johnson <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
