BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF KITTITAS STATE OF WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2019-CJ- A RESOLUTION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS OF KITTITAS COUNTY AUTHORIZING THE CONTINUED MAINTENANCE OF THE THREE TENTHS OF 1 % COUNTY SALES AND USE TAX TO FUND KITTITAS COUNTY AND THE INCORPORATED CITIES OF KITTITAS COUNTY FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PURPOSES. Whereas: Whereas: Whereas: RCW 82.14.450 authorizes county legislative authorities to adopt a Resolution providing for the submission of a proposal to the voters for a sales and use tax at the next primary or general election; and There is a need to maintain services for law and justice services in Kittitas County and the municipalities therein and by continued funding of those services with the sales and use tax established by Kittitas County Code 3.04 by three tenths of 1 %. The purpose of the measure would be to maintain funding for those costs associated with the retention of existing law enforcement officers to include maintenance of expenditures for county- wide proactive law enforcement investigation specifically intended to address major crimes, narcotics investigations, and provide for court security and custody of personnel. Funding also would be maintained for retention of clerks, prosecution, probation, and animal control. This funding would not be authorized for design, land acquisition, or construction or operation of the jail or the courthouse. This tax shall not be used to replace or supplant existing criminal justice funding. This matter shall be placed on the August 2019 ballot for voter consideration; ang The Board of County Commissioners of Kittitas County finds the proposal to be in the public interest, and, if maintained by the voters, shall include within its boundaries all of Kittitas County, Washington; Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved: A ballot proposition shall be submitted to the voters of Kittitas County, Washington, at the Primary Election of August 6, 2019 in substantially the following form: PROPOSITION NO. __ CRIMINAL JUSTICE SALES AND USE TAX The Board of County Commissioners of Kittitas County, Washington adopted Resolution 2019-__ _ concerning a proposition to maintain funding of vitally important law and justice personnel and criminal justice related services. The tax will continue to be used to maintain existing law enforcement personnel and criminal justice related services and personnel to include county clerks, prosecuting attorneys, probation, animal control, and associated administrative personnel.
