BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br />STATE OF WASHINGTON <br />RESOLUTION <br />NO. 2019-CJ- <br />A RESOLUTION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS OF KITTITAS COUNTY <br />AUTHORIZING THE CONTINUED MAINTENANCE OF THE THREE TENTHS OF 1 % <br />COUNTY SALES AND USE TAX TO FUND KITTITAS COUNTY AND THE INCORPORATED <br />CITIES OF KITTITAS COUNTY FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PURPOSES. <br />Whereas: <br />Whereas: <br />Whereas: <br />RCW 82.14.450 authorizes county legislative authorities to adopt a Resolution providing <br />for the submission of a proposal to the voters for a sales and use tax at the next primary <br />or general election; and <br />There is a need to maintain services for law and justice services in Kittitas County and <br />the municipalities therein and by continued funding of those services with the sales and <br />use tax established by Kittitas County Code 3.04 by three tenths of 1 %. The purpose of <br />the measure would be to maintain funding for those costs associated with the retention of <br />existing law enforcement officers to include maintenance of expenditures for county- <br />wide proactive law enforcement investigation specifically intended to address major <br />crimes, narcotics investigations, and provide for court security and custody of personnel. <br />Funding also would be maintained for retention of clerks, prosecution, probation, and <br />animal control. This funding would not be authorized for design, land acquisition, or <br />construction or operation of the jail or the courthouse. This tax shall not be used to <br />replace or supplant existing criminal justice funding. This matter shall be placed on the <br />August 2019 ballot for voter consideration; ang <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Kittitas County finds the proposal to be in the <br />public interest, and, if maintained by the voters, shall include within its boundaries all of <br />Kittitas County, Washington; <br />Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved: A ballot proposition shall be submitted to the voters of Kittitas County, <br />Washington, at the Primary Election of August 6, 2019 in substantially the following form: <br />PROPOSITION NO. __ <br />CRIMINAL JUSTICE SALES AND USE TAX <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Kittitas County, Washington adopted Resolution 2019-__ _ <br />concerning a proposition to maintain funding of vitally important law and justice personnel and criminal <br />justice related services. The tax will continue to be used to maintain existing law enforcement personnel <br />and criminal justice related services and personnel to include county clerks, prosecuting attorneys, <br />probation, animal control, and associated administrative personnel.
