KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />WORK SESSION DATE: January 19, 2016 <br />TOPIC: Kittitas Highway Closeout Change Order <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the Change Order <br />LEAD STAFF: Mark R. Cook <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve the final change order closing out the contract with Belsaas and Smith <br />for 2015 Kittitas Highway improvement construction. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />During much of 2015, Public Works has worked with Belsaas and Smith <br />constructing safety improvements to Kittitas Highway. During the course of <br />construction, numerous bid items ran over quantity. Inspector field note records <br />validate all quantity over -runs. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Rather than bring multiple change orders for each bid item over -run, we have <br />worked with our contractor (Belsaas and Smith) electing to bring all items to the <br />Board of County Commissioners on a single change order request. All bid item <br />quantities have been installed in the construction improvement. Public Works <br />does not dispute the installation of the materials nor the quality of the installation. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: <br />The amount of the final Kittitas Highway Improvement change order is <br />$196,547.84. The current total amount of change orders on the project is <br />$157,308.86.
