2017-09-26 MINUTES 1
COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONER’S AUDITORIUM
SPECIAL MEETING

TUESDAY 1:30 P.M. SEPTEMBER 26, 2017

Board members present: Vice-Chairman Laura Osiadacz and Commissioner
Obie O’Brien. Excused: Chairman Paul Jewell.

Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board; Jill Scheffer, Event
Center Director; Fair Board members: Clay Myers, Becky Sherley, and
Heather Harrell; Jill Scheffer, Event Center Director; and 7 members
of the Roping Club and Central Washington University Roping Club.

SPECIAL MEETING FAIR/RODEO ARENA COMMISSIONERS

At 1:30 p.m. Vice-Chairman Osiadacz opened a Special Meeting to hear
concerns relating to the lack of maintenance at Rodeo Arena and
surrounding areas.

Representatives of the local Roping Club; Barrel Racing Club and
Central Washington University Rodeo Club expressed concerns relating
to the conditions at the Rodeo Arena and surrounding areas at the
Event Center. The group reviewed issues relating to there being no
water availability; no roping chutes at the time of rental; dirty
and unstocked restrooms, etc. It was mentioned the grounds had not
been worked prior to their rental of the facility. They stated
they’d like having one flat price for renting the facility so they
don’t receive surprise bills like they’ve been sent recently. The
groups understand it’s one of the cheapest facilities to rent in the
State but said the other places are fully maintained. Another
concern expressed was how there have been several double bookings.
Representatives said they have rented the facility out for the same
dates each year going back 25-30 years and they’ve never changed.
The dates are in their signed contract so they shouldn’t have any
double bookings. They encouraged the County to look at obtaining a
system to help alleviate any scheduling conflicts.

Commissioner Osiadacz thanked everyone for taking time to bring
their comments and concerns to the Board and said it will help them
plan in the future in hopes for a better product for customers who
rent the facilities at the Event Center.

Commissioner O’Brien said they are looking into obtaining a new
software system for the Event Center scheduling. He said some of the
issues could be related to new employees and the significant
increase in users.
