KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
AGENDA STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: October 3, 2023
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution initiating County Road
Project designated as CRP NO: 319-23, Horizontal Curve
Safety Project.
BACKGROUND: Kittitas County has been selected to receive $450,000 from
the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for the
Horizontal Curve Safety Project. Roads that include
horizontal curves have been identified as high risk by the
2023 Safety Plan as well as past safety plans. Kittitas County
will benefit by collecting roadway horizontal curve data to
identify roads in need of crash prevention measures. This
grant funding will allow location selection and
implementation of improved roadside signing including
advisory speeds, LED chevrons/arrow signs, and addition
carsonites safety posts to increase driver awareness, which
can help reduce injuries on the road system.
HSIP funding is through the Washington State Department
of Transportation (WSDOT). The award does not require
matching local funds if design and construction are
authorized prior to April 30, 2026.
To meet the requirements of the program the project needs
to be initiated as a county road project and needs to be added
to the WSDOT Statewide Transportation Improvement
Program.
INTERACTION: Public Works
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution initiating County Road Project
designated as CRP NO: 319-23, Horizontal Curve Safety
Project.
HANDLING: Return one (1) original to Public Works
ATTACHMENTS: Resolution
LEAD STAFF: Josh Fredrickson, County Engineer
