2023-05-08 MINUTES 1

KITTITAS COUNTY
AIRPORT STUDY SESSION MINUTES
BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 108 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting

MONDAY 11:00 AM May 8, 2023
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright, Vice Char Laura Osiadacz, Commissioner Brett
Wachsmith
Others: Steve Dupont
CWU Lease
Director Ohl informed the commissioners that he has met with Darwin Triggs of CWU and
central is interested in purchasing the hangar that they are renting out. Steve Dupont of CWU
explained that while CWU is interested in purchasing the current hangar, they are still looking to
build a brand-new lot on the leased land on the west end. By building the new hangar, they
would use the current one to develop a maintenance program.
After hearing what CWU would like to do, the commissioners approved the possibility of CWU
buying the current hangar they are renting and to start working on the appraisal.
LKQ Development Opportunity
Director Ohl was approached by a processing facility that would want 150-175 acres. They
would bring in broken cars and trucks that would surround the building and utilize them for old
parts.
The commissioners decided that this business does not fit with the vision of the Bowers Business
Park and will pass on the opportunity.
Instrument Approach Procedure
Director Ohl has started to look at Instrument Approaches and lowering the approach. Director
Ohl discussed the best option to the commissioners which would be to let the FAA develop the
procedure. This would take two years and there is minimal to no cost involved with the FAA.
The commissioners remanded this back to Director Ohl to get more information before making a
final decision.
OTHER BUSINESS
• The FAA ADO was out on the airfield to take a look and were impressed with all of the
improvements at Bowers Field. They thanked Director Ohl for putting their money to
good use and to continue the good work.
