Proposal by: <br />Bryan Elliott, County Auditor on behalf <br />of Kittitas County Veterans Coalition <br />Topic: <br />Request Budget Amendment <br />for Veterans Assistance <br />Meeting: <br />BoCC June 6rh,2023 <br />Summary: The Kittitas County Veterans Advisory Board has recommended changing the definition of a <br />Veteran in section 3.1 of the Financial Assistance Policy to include any servicemember who has been <br />discharged from the armed forces, except for those who have received a dishonorable discharge. <br />Current policy defines eligible veterans as those who have received honorable or medical discharges. <br />RCW 73.08.005 requires the county legislative authority in consultation with the VAB to authorize any <br />changes to the definition of eligible veterans. <br />(b) At the drseretj-on of the cor.mty -Leg1sl.atj-$e autfrority and in <br />consultatien with the veterans' advisory bpard, csu*ties may expandeliEibility far the veterans assiEtan€e fund as the county delerrnines <br />n€ceasary" which may include serving veterans niith additional <br />discharge characterisationE. <br />At the May 12th VAB meeting. The Board voted to recommend a change to the definition in the financial <br />assistance policy. This change would go into effect with the approval of the BOCC. <br />Recommendation: BOCC considers approving the change in language as it reflects the intent of the VAB <br />to maximize the availability of services to local veterans. <br />o
