PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> <br />National Correctional Officers & Employees Week <br />May 1 – May 7, 2022 <br /> <br />WHEREAS: the National Correctional Officer’s Week was first proclaimed on May 5, 1985, <br />by President Ronald Reagan when he signed Proclamation 5187, to recognize the men and <br />women who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: in 1996, the U.S. Senate officially changed the name to National Correctional <br />Officers and Employees Week, recognized in the first week of May; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: the Kittitas County Corrections Officers and employees are committed to <br />maintaining custody, security, and control in a safe, efficient, and constitutional manner in the <br />Kittitas County Jail facility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: these dedicated men and women put their lives on the line daily and perform very <br />difficult tasks that can be both physically and emotionally demanding, while requiring careful <br />and constant vigilance, as the threat of violence is always present; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: the Corrections Officers and employees are responsible for supervising inmate <br />conduct and behavior to maintain security within the facility while promoting positive behavior, <br />attitudes, and skills within the inmate population to reduce recidivism and promote successful <br />reentry into the community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Kittitas County Board of County <br />Commissioners proclaim May 1 – May 7, 2022 as National Correctional Officers and Employees <br />week in Kittitas County, and request that the citizens of Kittitas County join them in honoring <br />the Kittitas County Corrections officers and employees for their invaluable contributions to <br />society. <br /> <br />Dated this 19th day of April 2022. <br /> THE KITTITAS COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br /> <br /> Laura Osiadacz, Chairman <br /> <br /> <br /> Cory Wright, Vice-Chairman <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> Brett Wachsmith, Commissioner <br />Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board <br />
