Kittitas County
Public Health Department

BOH Staff Report

AGENDA DATE:
March 15, 2022

ACTION REQUESTED:
The Board of County Commissioners approve the surplus trade-in for two Ford Escapes and a
Ford 150 used by Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) for newer vehicles with
less miles.

BACKGROUND:
The two Ford Escapes (2008) have high mileage and the Ford 150 (2014) pickup has over 100K
miles. The vehicles have mechanical issues, such as a vehicle wobbling over 50 mph, which can
affect staff safety. With the age and current miles on these vehicles, and the projected annual
miles that our Environmental Health Inspectors put on these vehicles, it is prudent to replace
the vehicles now. Due to a manufacture cancellation on our previous order, and with no
estimated time of arrival for a new build, KCPHD coordinated with the Auditor’s Office to
request to use a local vendor. KCPHD compared three similar vehicles between three local
vendors before deciding on based on job duty requirements such as fuel mileage, clearance
height, and capacity. Currently the vendor is offering near the top end of the Kelly Blue Book
value for trade-in on our current vehicles.

INTERACTION:
Kittitas County Auditor’s Office: Reviewed and Approved 03/04/2022

RECOMMENDATION:
The Board of County Commissioners approve the trade-in of Ford Escape (VIN-
1FMCU93G39KA19248) Ford Escape (VIN-1FMCU93G59KA19249) and Ford 150 Pickup (VIN-
1FTFX1ET4EKD69745). These replacements will provide safer and more reliable vehicles for
staff at the Kittitas County Public Health Department.

HANDLING:
N/A

LEAD STAFF:
Jesse Cox
Daniel Suggs
