Greetings:
The follow expands on the Kittitas County event application's requests for information regarding the
Yakima River Canyon Marathon on April 2,2022.
Fire Safetv and Protection: We intend to erect aZOx O'tent with sides in the parking lot of the Days Inn
on Berry Road. The tent will go up on Friday, April 1, and will be removed after the race start on April 2.
We received permission from the Days lnn to take this step after motel management informed us that
we would not have access this year to the conference center, which is undergoing renovation. ln past
years, the conference center has been available for runners to be out of the elements before the start.
Public Health/Environmental Health: I have enclosed a course map that indicates start, finish and aid-
station locations. The numbers adjacent to each location reflect the number of portable toilets that will
have been placed on those respective sites on the day before the race.
Law Enforcement/SecuriMEmergencv Health Services: Selah Fire and Rescue will provide emergency
services, as in years past. We are working with the Kittitas County Sheriffs Office regarding traffic
control; our contact is Philip Vidonne, who has been a regular participant in our planning meetings. We
also are working with the City of Ellensburg regarding a closure of Berry Road, and Brad Case is our
contact with the city. Most runners willtake shuttle buses from Selah and Union Gap to be dropped off
at either the Days lnn or the starting line on Canyon Road. The shuttle buses will run along lnterstate 82
from Selah and Yakima and will stop at either of the locations mentioned in the previous sentence.
Many other runners will be dropped off by private transportation; a handful will leave vehicles at the
Days lnn and will reffieve them after the race. In the week before the race, organizers will post signs on
Canyon Road in Kittitas and Yakima counties that will notify motorists of the partial road closure. The
state Department of Transportation will post a noticO on its message board regarding the partial closure,
and notices will be mailed to all residents in the affected area. Local residents will be mailed passes that
grant them access to the affected area, and passes will be available at retail outlets that cater to
recreationists. Driving restrictions include a speed limit of 25 mph. lnformation will be sent to the
Ellensburg Record and the Yakima Herald-Republic on the partial closure.
Garbage/recyclins: Race organizers will have garbage and recycling bags available at the start and at all
aid stations.
Penal Bond: ln past years, the race has received a waiver.
Thank you for your cooperation over the years (and decades) as we move fonrvard with our event after a
two-year hiatus.
Sincerely,
Frank Purdy, race director
REGHyED
FEB 2 5 2022
soARf HH*.f,Hf['r.**
