KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> “CONSTITUTION DAY AND CITIZENSHIP DAY” <br />September 17, 2021 <br /> WHEREAS the Constitution of the United States of America, which guarantees priceless freedoms to us as citizens of <br />the United States and to our posterity and sets forth a concept of liberty that has been an inspiration to freedom-loving <br />people everywhere, takes on still deeper meaning in these days of civil unrest; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS by joint resolution approved December 8, 2004 (36 U.S.C. 106), the Congress of the United States has <br />designated the seventeenth day of September of each year as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day in commemoration <br />of the signing on September 17, 1787, of the Constitution of the United States and in recognition of all who, by coming <br />of age or by naturalization, enjoy the privileges and assume the responsibilities of citizenship; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the aforesaid resolution urges the civil and educational authorities of States, counties, cities, and towns to <br />make plans for the proper observance of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day and for the complete instruction of <br />citizens in their responsibilities and opportunities as citizens of the United States and of the State and locality in which <br />they reside. <br /> <br />WHEREAS every year, thousands of candidates for citizenship commemorate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day <br />by becoming American citizens. These men and women have respected our laws and learned our history, some have <br />served in our military. <br /> <br />WHEREAS we encourage anyone to fulfill the dream of becoming a citizen of the United States of America, and we <br />welcome all who naturalize into our community to join us in writing the next great chapter of the American story, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS we remember the oath taken by all applicants who wish to become citizens: "I do solemnly swear that I <br />will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and that I will <br />well and faithfully discharge my duties and responsibilities as a citizen of the United States." <br /> <br />WHEREAS a celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is planned and scheduled to be held at Rotary Park <br />on September 17, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and all residents and visitors in Kittitas County are invited to attend, and <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners proclaims September 17, 2021, as Constitution <br />Day and Citizenship Day in Kittitas County and encourages all residents of Kittitas County to join us in attending the <br />Constitution Day and Citizenship Day celebration at Rotary Park to reaffirm our commitment to a strong adherence to <br />the foundational principles put forth in our Constitutions and laws for naturalization citizenship. <br /> <br /> <br />DATED THIS ___DAY OF ______________2021.
