7/23/2018 MINUTES 1 <br /> COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES <br />KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br />COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE ROOM <br />REGULAR MEETING <br /> <br />MONDAY 10:00 A.M. JULY 23, 2018 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Laura Osiadacz (arrived at 10:00 <br />a.m.); Vice-Chairman Obie O’Brien & Commissioner Cory Wright. <br /> <br />Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Patti Johnson, <br />Solid Waste Director/Project Manager; Dan Carlson, CDS Director; <br />Clay Myers, Undersheriff and Lisa Young, HR Director/Interim Event <br />Center Director. <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING DEPARTMENT HEAD SHERIFF <br /> <br />Clay Myers, Undersheriff asked the Board to grant permission to <br />explore separating out the Fire Marshal duties. He stated that he <br />would like to explore something like a Fire Code Official (in CDS) <br />and a Fire Marshal in the Sheriff’s Office and explained why and <br />what he initially thought it would look like. He stated through the <br />years there are always Fire Marshals that excel in some areas and <br />aren’t as strong in others and by separating the duties they can <br />both do the best in their respective areas. He stated that he would <br />like the Board to support an internal team looking into all impacts <br />of what it could look like. <br /> <br />The Board expressed their appreciation for the forward thinking <br />“outside the box” idea and expressed their support for Undersheriff <br />Myers working with HR, CDS and Prosecutor to bring forward a full <br />synopsis. <br /> <br />Undersheriff Myers also stated that he spoke briefly about it with <br />KVFR and they were enthusiastic about the idea. <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> <br />KITTITAS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />DEPUTY CLERK OF THE BOARD KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Mandy Buchholz Laura Osiadacz, Chairman <br />
