2017-04-18 MINUTES 1
COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES
KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON
COMMISSIONER’S AUDITORIUM
SPECIAL MEETING

TUESDAY 1:00 P.M. APRIL 18, 2017

Board members present: Chairman Paul Jewell & Vice-Chairman Laura
Osiadacz. Absent - Commissioner Obie O’Brien.

Others: Mandy Buchholz, Deputy Clerk of the Board II; Julie
Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board.

SPECIAL MEETING BOCC - FACEBOOK COMMISSIONERS

At 1:00 p.m. Chairman Jewell opened a Special Meeting that was set
to allow for follow up on a Special Meeting held on 4/4/2017 to
consider creating an Official County Commissioners Facebook Page.

Commissioner Osiadacz explained that after the last meeting with the
Board as well as the Clerk and Deputy Clerk she had a list of
questions and concerns to get answers/solutions to. She reviewed a
list of ideas she came up with and for what to post which was
approximately 12 different topics/agendas. Those ranged from various
Boards and Committee Agendas to Commissioners Agendas and
proclamations. Chairman Jewell felt that it was too much. He felt
that if Facebook gets flooded with posts citizens will get tired of
seeing it and hide the Commissioners Page. He felt it would be most
effective to limit postings to twice a week. Commissioner Osiadacz
reviewed the feedback in response to concerns the Staff had and
explained how she felt the feedback received cleared up most of the
concerns Staff had. She reviewed her proposal for who and how the
page would be administered; audience; ways to get followers;
permissions; filters for profanity; who would be responsible for
monitoring the page off hours and holidays and notification
settings.

Chairman Jewell asked that the list of topics for posting be paired
down and that it be brought back to the Board’s Office Admin.,
Meeting April 24, 2017. He stated that they will need to address
each Monday what will be posted each week and outside of emergency
notifications the list should be stuck to. Commissioner Osiadacz was
asked to come up with response language for the comments on the
page. Chairman Jewell felt using the page as a recruitment tool for
positions the Board is looking to fill is something he is interested
in to see if it reaches a bigger audience. He felt it needed to
state that this is a “trial” page and the Board will review it
within approximately 6 months.
