KITTITAS COUNTY
SHERIFF’S OFFICE

AGENDA STAFF REPORT

AGENDA DATE: May 15, 2018

ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Amend Resolution 2018-007 to Change L&J
Grantee from Kittitas County Search and Rescue to Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

BACKGROUND: The original L&J grant was awarded to Kittitas County Search and
Rescue (KCSR) in the amount of $5,000. KCSR is a 501c(3) nonprofit entity not
associated with the County government. The purpose of the grant award was to purchase
a generator to be installed into the Sheriff Office’s mobile command van (MC61), which
is owned by the County but which was originally donated to the Sheriff’s Office by
KCSR. The cost of the generator and installation were likewise to be donated to KCSO
by KCSR. However, KCSR no longer has the funds available to cover the remaining
amount due to be paid for the cost of the generator and the labor to install it into MC61.
The Sheriff has directed that his Office pay the $7,623.77 bill to Yakima Generator in
full. The difference of $2,623.77 (the bill total of $7,623.77 less the $5,000 grant award)
will be covered by the County’s Search and Rescue budget, which is feasible. There is
$13,970 total in that budget section, including $3,000 in the Vehicle Maintenance line.

The purpose of this amendment is to move the grant award of $5,000 from KCSR to
KCSO so that KCSO can pay the entire bill to the winning lowest responsive responsible
bidder for the cost of the generator and installation labor. This is a reasonable thing to do
given that KCSO already owns the vehicle into which the generator is being installed,
and the result of the amendment also upholds the original intent of KCSR’s desire that
KCSO own the generator on board MC61.

INTERACTION: The Kittitas County Prosecutor’s Office has reviewed and approved
this amendment.

RECOMMENDATION: Request to Amend Resolution 2018-007 to Change L&J
Grantee from Kittitas County Search and Rescue to Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

HANDLING: Please return one signed copy to the Sheriff’s Office.

LEAD STAFF: Heather Seibert, Chief Financial Manager
