KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: March 15, 2016 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Consider a Special Event Application request to hold the <br />Yakima River Canyon Marathon. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: The Commissioner’s office received a Special Event <br />application to hold the annual Yakima River Canyon <br />Marathon on Saturday April 2, 2016. <br /> <br />INTERACTION: The applicant is requesting a waiver to the following: <br /> <br /> Kittitas County Code Chapter 5.20.100 – Penal Bond – <br />Bond of Indemnity - The applicant has provided proof of <br />insurance and believes that it should be adequate coverage, <br />since their event has proven to have no effect on the roads <br />in the past. <br /> <br /> The applicant does not need a waiver to the following: <br /> <br />The applicant has not requested a waiver to Kittitas <br />County Code Chapter 5.20.160 – Closing Hours but <br />since their event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and <br />according to the County Code, events shall not be open to <br />the public before the hour of 7:00 a.m. they will not need a <br />waiver. <br /> <br />The permit fee has been paid and Staff has routed the <br />application and received a recommendation of approval <br />from the following departments: Sheriff, Public Health, <br />Public Works, Solid Waste, Fire Marshal & Prosecutor. <br /> <br />The Public Works Department has requested the following: <br /> <br />Future events need to include a detailed map of the course <br />that they will be using. Although from year to year there <br />are usually no changes, Public Works needs to be aware of <br />where their signs will be posted and traffic control for the <br />intersections. (See memo for specifics). <br /> <br />1) Local advertisement in the Daily <br />Record/Radio/physical posting two weeks in advance
