Kittitas County <br />Superior Court <br /> <br />Agenda Staff Report <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: <br />1/16/2018 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Request to execute Agreement for Kittitas County Superior Court Indigent Defense Services with CK <br />Powers and Paul McBride. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At least since 1989 indigent defense in the Kittitas County Superior Court has been provided by willing <br />attorneys volunteering to have their names placed upon a list off of which the Court (through its <br />Administrator) appointed attorneys. Under this system the Court has compensated the attorneys on a per- <br />case basis, with additional funding being available for time spent in trial, and for complex or abnormally <br />time-consuming cases. In 2018 the Court is moving to contract attorneys as already implemented in the <br />Lower and Upper Kittitas County District Courts. Contracts will be provided to individual attorneys. The <br />contracts provide how many cases will be completed by each attorney and the rate of pay thereon.
