PROCIANAor'lojv <br />XationaCAmerlcan <br />Jvovember 2013 <br />WHEREAS, in the United States, nearly 26 million people have diabetes, a serious disease <br />with potentially life-threatening complications such as heart disease, stroke, <br />blindness, kidney disease, and amputation; and <br />WHEREAS, recent estimates project that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes <br />in 2050 unless we take steps to stop diabetes. An additional 79 million people in <br />the United States have pre -diabetes and are at high risk for developing type 2 <br />diabetes; and <br />WHEREAS, one out of every three children, and one out of every two minorities, born today <br />will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue; and <br />WHEREAS, an increase in community awareness is necessary to put a stop to the diabetes <br />epidemic; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners do <br />hereby proclaim November 2013 to be American Diabetes Month in Kittitas <br />County, Washington.
