KITTITAS COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STAFF REPORT FOR
STUDY SESSION
Public Health Office
STUDY SESSION DATE: 07.22.2026
TOPIC: Authorizing Recurring Monthly Kittitas County Public Health Department
Closure for All-Staff Meetings
ACTION REQUESTED: Approval
LEAD STAFF: Erin Moore
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve resolution authorizing the Kittitas County Public Health Department to close to routine
public business one recurring day per month from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.to conduct
department-wide all-staff meetings.
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
• Requests approval of a recurring one-hour monthly closure to routine public business.
• Allows all department staff to participate in a regularly scheduled all-staff meeting.
• Supports communication, training, emergency preparedness, organizational alignment,
and operational efficiency.
• Emergency response and urgent public health activities will continue as operationally
necessary during the scheduled closure.
BACKGROUND:
The Kittitas County Public Health Department currently operates with staff assigned across
multiple divisions, programs, and work locations. Establishing a recurring monthly all-staff
meeting provides a consistent opportunity for department-wide communication, organizational
updates, training, emergency preparedness activities, cross-program coordination, and employee
engagement.
Scheduling these meetings during normal business hours allows all employees to participate
without requiring overtime or extended workdays. A predictable one-hour monthly closure also
allows the public to plan accordingly and minimizes disruption compared to scheduling
intermittent closures throughout the year.
DISCUSSION:
Regular all-staff meetings are an important management tool that improve internal
communication, promote consistency across programs, and strengthen coordination during
routine operations and emergency response.
The proposed schedule limits the closure to one hour each month during the latter part of the
workday, reducing impacts on public access while providing dedicated time for department
Page 1 of 2
Public Health Office"Study Session Staff Report", 12/23/2024
